When it comes to the price tag for energy, Springs’ residents don’t have it so bad.
City residents pay less for energy than all other major cities in Colorado except Loveland, according to the nonprofit research group, C2ER.

Colorado Springs Utilities attributes its low rates to generating most of its electricity at its own power plants, as well as employing proactive hedging, long-term contracts and use of underground storage to keep natural gas rates stable.

Retirees who enjoy wilderness preserves and landscaped parks are increasingly choosing cities like Colorado Springs, Austin and Raleigh, N.C. for visits and relocation.
That’s the latest news from the U.S. News and World Report online, which released its list of the “Ten Greenest Places to Retire.”

Paul Butcher, director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services in Colorado Springs, viewed the ranking as both an affirmation “that we’re doing the right thing with our park system, and in a roundabout way, we’re an economic driver.”
